The carrier rocket “Soyuz-U” at the Baikonur cosmodrome
At the Baikonur cosmodrome launched the latest carrier rocket “Soyuz-U”, exploited since 1973. It put into orbit transport ship “Progress MS-05”
The carrier rocket “Soyuz-U” with a cargo spacecraft “Progress MS-05” was launched from Baikonur cosmodrome. It is reported by the state Corporation “Roscosmos”.
The launch took place at 08:58 GMT, 09:07 the cargo ship separated from the third stage booster. “Progress” will be in an Autonomous flight for two days, its docking to the International space station (ISS) is scheduled for 11:34 GMT on 24 February.
As previously reported by the Roscosmos, the launch of “Soyuz-U” will be the last. Booster operated since 1973.
“Progress” will deliver to the ISS about 2.5 tons of various cargoes, including fuel, compressed gases, spacesuit “Orlan-MKS”, equipment for scientific experiments, medical facilities, containers with food and water, expendable equipment and parcels for crew members of the space station.
This is the first launch of the cargo spacecraft series “Progress MS” after the accident, which occurred on 1 December 2016. Then the carrier rocket “Soyuz-U” was not able to put into orbit space truck “Progress MC-04”. Its wreckage fell on the territory of Tuva. The main version of the fall of “Progress” was recognized as the destruction of the engine block third stage of the launch vehicle.
