Intel bought manufacturer of software for unmanned vehicles for $15 billion

U.S. Intel Corporation announced on Monday, March 13 that acquires Israeli startup Mobileye, specializing in the development of technologies for unmanned vehicles. According to the report from Intel, the transaction amount will be $15.3 billion, it will be closed within the next nine months.

The deal will allow Intel to combine competence in the field of automated driving technologies. According to the us Corporation, market systems, data and services in the transport sector will reach $70 billion by 2030.

Mobileye is a developer of video systems, assisting drivers. The company was founded in 1999, and in 2014 completed an IPO on the new York stock exchange. Tesla began using technology startup in the drone of its Model S in 2015. The portal TechCrunch called the Monileye acquisition — major deal among Israeli technology companies.

In July last year it became known that the German automaker BMW in conjunction with Intel and Mobileye will create a new technology of self-driving. They expect the upgraded cars will be put into production by 2021.

In may, the head of BMW Harald Krueger said that the automaker plans to introduce in 2021 new model iNext — the so-called response to the electric car of Tesla Motors Elon musk.
